Hi, my site Stock Fuel recently launched and I am looking for the best places to advertise to attract the design community.
We have been using buysellads.com to limited success and adwords… but does anyone have any advice?

What sites are you advertising on with buysellads? I would think sites like Sitepoint and others that cater to creatives would be a good starting point.
Take some time to think about the places your users visit, the magazines they read and if there are any user groups or online communities for these folks visit. Maybe an online directory that lists graphic designers and web developers?

We’ve generally been taking out high priced, high traffic adds targeted directly at designers… but the traffic doesn’t seem to convert well to sales. Maybe I am being a little impatient though as we have only been running a few months.

Well, getting your offer seen by the right people is priority one, but next up is the offer that you’re making to them. Can I ask what you’re saying in your ads?
Are you getting clicks to your website, or are the ads just not converting as well as you’d like and getting people to your site?
This is where it’s good to split test your ads and the offer you’re making on your site to figure out what works best for you in your situation.
Also, be open to consider other ways of marketing that might cost less than these high priced ads you mentioned. Maybe you could publish a free guide or something to show designers how to benefit from using stock images and video etc…and then show 'em what’s special about your site and why they should buy from you instead of the other guys?
You might be able to get some sites to offer a guide like that to their visitors for free, or get some free publicity for your guide by other means?
