Hosting Advice

Hello everyone,

It’s been 2 years now since I have used Bluehost as a host for my website. But after all this time (i must say i had no problems during this time) i kind of need a bit more resources.
I have switched from SMF to IPB lately and beside that I have a custom made web application.

Now, what do you suggest me I should do? Switch to a better Shared Host or switch to a VPS Host?
I have no idea what shared host should I pick as a vps i looked around a bit and stuck to vps.net

Thank you all for any suggestion and any reply.
Cheers.

One of the more expensive shared hosting providers where they put a lot less accounts on the same server is probably the most appropriate next step when you outgrow the cheaper shared hosting.

You can try Hosting from Resellerclub, if you have domains with them… They’re quite a good host in the market ! You can go to their website here : www.resellerclub.com

I think that low end VPS would be the best option for you and that will work for you. Which company to chose - it is your business. I recommend you read as many as possible reviews about every candidate.

VPS.net is unmanaged by default, which means you must be your own server admin. There’s a $99 monthly fee if you want them to manage the server for you, which is quite expensive.

The trouble with a fully managed VPS is that it will most likely have a control panel installed. That eats up extra funds. Basically the overhead is what kills you with a smallish VPS, and you won’t end up with much of an upgrade. About 200MB will probably be used up by all the services installed with the control panel, so you’re left with 300MB or less to be used for actual website hosting. As such, I’d rather advise that you go for $20-30+ shared hosting (or semi-dedicated which is marketing speak for higher powered shared hosting) from a reputable provider.

You can buy managed VPS from 247-host.com - very reliable and good support.
Good luck.

I recommend you checking small but managed VPS for this purpose. That would be the best solution for you in terms of stability.

Thanks ldcdc for pointing that out. I must have missed the unmanaged thingy.
I’m back to VPS searching then :frowning:

I’ll focus on felgall’s advice also.

Thanks for the replies everyone.
