Email Marketing - Getting My Money Back

Title says it all.

I am very reluctant to part with my cash and thought I would give Email Marketing a go. I wasn’t expecting miracles because there never is a marketing miracle, but I feel like I have just thrown, what is a lot of money for me or anyone down the drain.

Any advice welcome.

I wanted to sample some data, so I was told the company I used had what I wanted and it was targeted or as reliable as the data could be. Which I understand it’s not all going to be accurate.

2500 email addresses in the UK of my target market. Engaged UK Couples, Male Or Female Data, 6 weeks old.

Now. I have targeted another group in my area and ran a similar campaign myself. My Click Through Rate from my server which isn’t that old, many emails would bounce and no doubt went into spam but I would say I got a CTR rate of about 5% to 10% at least if not more.

The CTR for the campaign I paid for was 0.001% if I’m working it out correctly. 5 People visited my website.

If the data was targeted and even if the person wasn’t interested, I would have thought many would be curious.
It was a nicely designed HTML email and I would just expect clicks out of curiosity sake.

I don’t feel like I can ask for my money back but I feel done over to be honest and I am aware of the risks but this is just ridiculous.

Any thoughts welcome. Where do I stand on this one…

Thanks

It’s been many years since mailing list rentals were considered either acceptable or effective.

Every day we get dozens if not hundreds of emails then throw a completely out-of-left-field and unexpected one into the mix… Why would you open it? Why wouldn’t you be upset at the person who sent it too you? No one opted in to your list so while the mailer may skirt a few laws in disclosure you can’t skirt interest.

As for a refund, well, you can always ask but companies selling emails don’t tend to have much of a reputation left to back.

p.s. 5 visits from 2500 emails a 0.2% CTR. Not any good but better

Thanks for the reply Ted.

They didn’t sell it to me, they ran the campaign for me. I didn’t think I’d get my money back, more venting than anything, just really dissappointed with it all. I could have ran adwords and got more targetted clicks, more than 5 thats for sure.

If “they” is a recognized brand that has a relationship with the audience then I’d ask, heck push, for a full refund. But otherwise you’re making a good assumption and while it may be worth a note just to see, moving on will net results.
