I would like to see one example of article syndication that “works so well” or a web site that has achieved good search engine rankings because of duplicate content. Stevie_D is right. The truth is that article syndication works for those who run article sites and thanks to the Panda Update, it isn’t working as well as it used to for them either.
Additionally, article sites generally only promote the work of their so-call “expert” writers. They don’t give a Tinker’s dam how well it is written or how knowledgeable you are about your subject.
Another problem with articles sites is that most of them are open to anyone that wants to download articles for their website. Your work (if you happen to be an “expert” ) is not only duplicated, but can end up in multi-dozen triplicate.
If you want to promote your website with your articles, then submit original work to a site that is authoritative in your field. Authoritative websites are usually happy to feature new, well-written content in their niche and more, many of them even PAY their contributing authors as well as allowing a backlink to the author’s website.
The point of article syndication from the point of view of the sites hosting your articles is that they’re getting free articles on their website at no cost, expense or effort, and that can bring in visitors, which can bring in money.
The point of article syndication from the point of view of the author is a bit hazier. In one theory, it’s a good way to promote your work to people who haven’t found your website. In another theory, it’s a good way to lose control of your work and never get those people onto your website. If people have read the full article already, there’s less incentive for them to click through to your website. That’s why I prefer having a teaser that links to the main article on your site only – you remain in control of the design and content, it’s clearly your work and not anyone else’s and you’re attracting visitors to your site.
And that’s before we consider the Google Panda update, which is aimed at demoting sites whose only purpose is to repackage existing content, such as scrapers and syndication sites. With that in mind, if you want to maximise your chance of success in Google, your best bet is definitely to have just one the one copy of your article out there, and that is on your own website.
Just adding to the duplicate content thing - if it is so ‘bad’ then what is the point of article syndication and why then does it work so well?
(note I said syndication, not ‘mass submission’)
Original content on your site - absolutely, but for promotional purposes it is possible to do article syndication properly using duplicate content that is good quality and relevant to your site. Along with a diversity in your linking structure. (OK, getting into SEO now)
Regardless of whether you’re writing content for SEO purposes or simply for enlightening others, I agree that it should be unique every time. This will cover your bases. You will not be penalized by Google (for SEO) and you will also provide the most relevant information to your readers. I learned this at my <snip>website design ny based company. When in doubt, be unique!
To give a backlink to my sites is the main reason, I have been submitting articles for several years now but submitting each article to several sites at a time, so Im wondering if this can do any damage to my search rankings, as it could be classed as duplicate content? and I will be penalised from google for this?
in that case, you really should have posted this question in the SEO forum, not the Web Writing forum, because articles that are created for the purpose of gaining search engine backlinks aren’t going to be read by anyone, whereas web writing is concerned about improving the quality of writing for human readers
go ahead and post to as many article directories as you wish
He didn’t say he was posting junk articles, just that he was doing it for the back links. They may be high quality articles…Although it’s probably very unlikely.
In my opinion you should submit only good quality articles and submit each article once. This is the best way to gain incoming links from your article as more people are likely to republish it if it is good content.
I know its tempting to just post garbage because you want to submit as many as possible and you don’t see it as a gain by adding to someone else’s website but submitting rubbish is a false economy.
You can get more from press releases, they have more readers, articles not that much, but yes they say the heading must be the kick.
Of course you want readers to your article as much as backlinks, take time off and write a book, submit it once to one article directory with very good heading. and next great article again, I can’t even imagine doing this because English isn’t my mother lang, that way it is really hard to write articles that are grammatically 100% correct. Should hire someone from uk , to do it:D
You do not get good backlinks from article directories no matter how well written your article is. I think Google has proved that in their Panda Update.
Good backlinks come from other sites that believe your article is authoritative on a particular topic. These are the type of backlinks that search engines look for and consider in rating your site.
You should consider if you are writing for SEO only or writing to increase human visits to your website. If you are writing for SEO only, what is the purpose behind that? Isn’t the purpose of SEO to increase human visits? If you have no quality content on your site… if you are posting all your quality content at article sites, even if visitors find your website through a search engine search what does your website have to offer them when they visit? That is a rhetorical question because the answer is certainly nothing!
The solution – write good content for YOUR visitors. Put the content on YOUR website and let the search engines do their job properly… let them direct YOUR visitors to the best quality you can offer on YOUR website.
i would suggest you to submit only good quality articles with really eye catching content and submit each article once as that is the best way to gain incoming links.
twice or trice won’t hurt but if yo9u want to exceed on that you might at least do minor editing on your article before submitting it to other article directory.
come on, folks, this is the Web Writing forum, not the push-as-much-crap-onto-the-internet-as-you-can-to-increase-your-dubious-backlinks “search engine optimization” forum
please, leave the article spinning garbage and article directory nonsense ~out~ of this forum
writing for a tech site i am always up with Press Releases. Not even then i don’t Copy Paste the info; i try to avoid as much as possible double content
