Dedicated Hosting

I need inexpensive but good dedicated server. Can anyone recommend something?

You may try reading around http://www.webhostingunleashed.com/

If you give them your contact info (needed to download comparison charts etc… well, you have to give them some info  they’ll likely pass your info to some of their (apparently) hosting advertisers such as NaviSite and ThePlanet.

Can’t specifically recommend something, but might be nice to have some of them solicit you and answer questions etc. as you research.

Their articles + charts will address the primary vectors of consideration.

They compare many of the “SiteSponsors” you see above threads in this site as well, such as HostGator, Rackspace, and others.

Hope this helps!

What are you planning on hosting on the server?

I plan to host dating site there, maybe more sites. I currently host it on shared webhosting like $10/month but I get too many database errors and other problems… I also need to send mass mail to my members + new message notifications + welcome e-mail = LOTS of e-mails but shared hosting limits me to 5000 mails/month and I already have over 10K members so it’s not enough…

Now I’m actually considering VPS (virtual private server) - it’s cheaper than dedicated and should be good enough since I only have 10-30 people online at a time. Any advice?

i personally use startlogic to host my business site

affordable on any level

If only 30members online at the same time, a VPS can handle it well. Your LiveDateLove.com is running asp. Do you want a Windows or Linux VPS?

If manageability is issue, you should look for a managed VPS hosting, it would be cheaper than dedicated.

What web hosting solution have you been using before? I believe if you are on the start you may start with shared account

I use {snip} it is 120 $ monthly and server is good

i agree with gate2vn, if the website does not have a lot of traffic, and if you also need full access to the server, you could look for vps hosting, it would be much cheaper than dedicated hosting.

hostmonster? my site is hosted to that and I’ve never encountered any problem with it.

Start with a VPS, although you can find some lower spec’d dedi’s for marginally more. Then it would be yours to do with what you want.

Sure. Starlogic is a good choice. StartLogic Hosting is one of the leading web hosting companies today. Did you use them yourself? Because my personal experience with shared hosting at their sister companies, Fatcow and Ipage, hasn’t been all that great. Just because they’re all well known brands, doesn’t mean they’re the perfect choice.

What is your requirement? If you don’t have technical knowledge then you can select managed dedicated hosting.

Dedicated hosting has been touted to us as more secure than shared. Would managed VPS hosting offer the same level of security?

level of security MOSTLY depends on the server admin, that is, how the server is configured

VPS is a good choice if you don’t need a lot of memory,
and a lot of memory usually equals to mysql server with large database and many users

You can start out with Vps and upgrade anytime you need to. Just make sure the hosting company lets you change plans with no new fees to upgrade.

Are you looking for dedicated server in UK or US, my suggestion will be go for managed server hosting.
