Bought the .me domain name - should I buy .co.uk as well?

Hi,

I am launching a new website on a .me domain name. I have the option to buy the .co.uk at about £500. Should I host on the .co.uk instead and redirect the .me to the .co.uk?

Basically, what will rank better? .me or .co.uk. The target audience is mainly Europe.

Thanks,

Matt.

How the site ranks in search engines will depend primarily on the quality of the content. The choice of domain extension will make no difference.

If you choose a .co.uk domain, Google will automatically assume your target audience is UK. If you choose a non-country-specific domain, you have the opportunity to set your geographical target in Google Search Console (what used to be Webmaster Tools).

It all depends on whether you are targetting both of those countries.
