Approaching ad networks for new site

I have a site currently in development for a niche market. I want to have ad space on the site but I’m unsure on how to approach ad networks (CPM) since the site will be brand new. Are they usually up for running their ads on new startups? Should I wait to get some traffic in before looking into them? I also plan to run a ad on mctraffics as I read from a post on here. Has anyone had any luck with Mctraffics? Thanks in advance.

No, most decent networks require your site to have a reasonable amount of traffic before accepting your site - I would try applying until you have a minimum of ~20,000 impressions per month.

You could maybe stick AdSense ads up in the meantime?

Thank you for the reply, I was getting worried no one would respond. Do you know of any CPM networks that do not mind user submitted content? My site will be 100% user submitted, although it will be monitored so there is no illegal, pornography, etc on the site.

I don’t know either way I’m afraid - you would have to approach each network individually.

Networks don’t tend to like user-submitted content because as close as you may be monitoring, there is always a risk that their ads will be served against illegal/distasteful content (even for a short period) which could embarrass their advertisers.

Once the site is big enough, networks are more approachable with things like user submitted content, because the traffic makes the risk a little more worthwhile. If you have built a brand and have that to protect yourself, then that will also give the network more confidence that your content won’t embarrass them. All this comes with time of course…

Thank you for taking the time to respond.

Hi Lagz,
Congratulations on the new site!

As an ad network we can say that we are always open to new sites.
Most of the proper ad networks knows the difference between a new site that has a lot of potential and just didn’t have enough time to get to a better traffic rating (such as “Alexa”) and a site that just has a bad rating :).

The best thing to do is to give it a shot and see.

Good luck!
