A friend just mentioned it to me today. According to the Web site, it’s an open-source code editor that seems designed primarily for Linux. Looks powerful and multi-faceted, and not particularly focused on Web design. Anyone?
Hey Max, I’ve used Bluefish in the past, it’s not a bad application but as most of my development work is done on Windows I tend to use Notepad++. However I think the best thing to-do is test it out and see if it does the job you need, everyone has different ideas of what would be the best editor for their own needs.
I think Bluefish is like using an ICBM to shoot squirrels off your roof. Too much app for me.
I like Notepad++, but it has an annoying habit of jumping around – for example, when I delete a text string, the cursor jumps to the very top of the screen, making me lose track of where I am and forcing me to scroll back to where I was. Drives me nuts. (Does it do that with you?) Other than that, it’s a very powerful text editor. I approve of text editors in general, and have used them ever since HomeSite became obsolete.
Tommy recommends Vi, but I don’t have the patience to sit and learn that one.
I used it for a while and found it to be an incredibly heavy app, as was already mentioned. I ended up shelving it simply due to the lag associated with the heft of it.
It’s a pretty good editor that I’ve used in the past. It all depends on what platform you’re working on. For windows I also like Pspad, Komodo Edit (which is now free), and Notepad++.
On my Macbook I use TextWrangler or Komodo Edit. Still looking for other good alternatives there.
I haven’t used Linux in a couple years but I would use Bluefish or Kate.
Hand Grenade, If you want a good Mac code editor, you should check out the commercial tool Coda, it’s single handedly the best agile solution I’ve ever seen.
I just checked out coda and it’s pretty sweet. However $99 is pretty steep since I only use my mac at home. Maybe when I get rich I’ll splurge on it.
