AdSenSe: Above the folder or bellow the folder?

What are the best positions on a web page to place your Adsense code?

When I say “best positions” I mean the areas where you can receive a click without it annoy the visitor.

Above the folder or bellow the folder?

[FONT=verdana]There’s no one-size-fits-all answer to that question. Every site is different, and what works for one might not work for another.

My personal experience is that ads at the foot of the page get the highest click-through rate. But that might be because of factors that are specific to my sites. It won’t necessarily be the same for you.

As for it not annoying your users, that is highly subjective. My own rule is to place ads where they would not annoy me, on the assumption that my users will think the same way that I do (which isn’t necessarily true).

The best thing you can do is to test it for yourself. Try above-the-fold on some pages, below-the-fold on others, and compare the results. That’s the only way to know for sure.

That visitors arrive at the end of the page and wonder:
Now what do I do next? I do not see navigation links. Let’s give you click on these ads and see where I get.

So going?

Yes, that’s quite possible. But, again, it depends on the page. If the page contains a fairly long article that visitors are likely to read all the way through, it’s possible they will do as you describe - especially if the ads are relevant to the subject of the article. But perhaps less so in other cases. That’s why I suggested you test different placements - partly to see which produce the most revenue, and partly to try to get a view as to which are likely to be the least annoying.

I think the first choice is always the correct one and I’ll try your recipe.
I’ll post all the ads on the bottom of the page.
