Its very very helpful and saves a lot of time when one is testing out things. I guess this has saved me atleast 16 hrs of installing and removing scripts and testing was so much easier.
I have been using phpwebsite at two client sites and found it reasonably OK, but Mambo is also looking interesting for a similar site I am doing for a client.

$45 gets you a ad driven script. It’s nice to look at and clean. But Nuke is free and for most people is very much the same and has more options. Sure the coding is “better” but then again, most don’t care or know the difference…
Maybe one to add to the list. I’m using Invision message board software with a portal hack. Pretty straight forward system using a message board as it’s backend. I used PHP Nuke awhile ago, before the project got passed on to other developers, and i’ve been pretty happy with the amount of updates with Invision.

What does Sitepoint use? Reading between the lines I’m guessing EZ publish? I need a solution very similar to sitepoint’s. My site has lots of articles, extensive VB forums, cards, galleries, links and more…
Of course, unlike the SP people, I don’t know much PHP (ok any…) but I have a friend that can help if it’s just a one time operation to customize something. I also have a dedicated server (though a cheap one - not a lot of resources…).
Hey, I’m pretty sure Sitepoint uses it’s own CMS.
SP are using a modified version of smarty along with editize I believe 
I thought SP was using Zope.
Can we get DB2CMS added to the list? It’s free for non-commercial use, and $139 for commercial use.
Is there a demo for db2cms?
I filled out the form for a web developer site license, and the download link that I got in email threw a 404, plus, when I wrote to the email address listed, the mail got sent back as undeliverable

It isn’t? I wanted to see what the product could do as well as the support (after all, Astarte is a real co., aren’t they?) But after looking at the forums and how absolutely deader than a graveyard they were for the past year, it made me wonder. Additionally, there were many posts of people asking where the heck the support was with no responses. Not good at all.
I took a look at the product. Some of the sites seem OK. However, there were so many complaints about things I wasn’t sure whether it was worth it at all. Have you actually used it?
Do anyone know of any good CMS that publish static pages?

I didn’t like pmachine since it felt much like a nuke/blogger without search engine friendliness and with the same nuke-like blockiness. Most of the sites I were bloggish and the few that looked nice did so on first glance.
It’s a very nice product for what it is. I do like it. But as per the author or many of the enthusiasts, I don’t think it was designed to be a CMS although it is being used as such. I’d say that Article Manager is where a CMS should be although it is much more basic than it should be at that price. NePHP has much more ‘potential’ albeit complicated and having its own quirks, issues and high cost.
I think it’s a tough time for CMS products but we are getting close…
WebEdition – looked at the dead support forums and mediocre sites that load in a very awkward and time consuming fashion. Has a REALLY nice manual and is a product that I want to like but seems to be one that scares me with regard to support and potential for bugs. Is anyone actually using it? Also expensive to get just basic user group management – $600.
Looked at siteworks pro. Looks easy and simple to use. Unfortunately it appears there is no template control at all and the navs all require hard coding. No search engine friendliness, no titles in pages (not uncommon) and most importantly it appears designed more for novices (who wants hardcoded options for privacy policy, contact us, etc. – plus they forgot others like terms of use… should be articles.) This seems like a beginners package ala nuke but more organized and with some nice features. Not a bad product for $99 and will get the job done for most people… I’m not sure if you’d want to use it for a more serious endeavor… maybe I’m missing the features like templates but I don’t see them in the demo, e.g. different template for medical articles, legal articles, polls. Don’t see any real archiving system either. Somewhat impressive for what it does… getting there… but not really there.
Things have gotten really bad. I bought version 4, and the next day, price slashed by half. Nevermind… emailed them about change of email address, no reply at all, not even after sending at least 3 mails. Then version 5 is out, and no upgrade. Don’t waste your money. I will give you my copy for free.
