Introducing the SitePoint Guru Lists

From my blog post:

Quote:
I approached last year’s award winners and asked them to create a list of their favourite SitePoint articles for the category in which they were recognized. The result is an awesome collection of articles that have been hand-picked by experts.
Thank you to all of our gurus!

Check out the SitePoint Guru Lists.

Nice nice. Thank You SitePoint

Found some of the articles on buying up domains useful.

Big thank you for your efforts. However, why did the "gurus" have to confine themselves to SitePoint articles only? There are excellent non-sitepoint articles out there that a newbie would have been the most grateful to find. To list sitepoint articles is ok but other articles should also have been included. I for one would have loved that.

I think they should have been asked to list any article they found to be invaluable regardless of whether it is a Sitepoint article or not.

We're looking at the possibility of adding functionality like this to SitePoint at some stage down the track. For now though, the purpose was to make the current catalogue of SitePoint articles easier to find, especially for beginners. Adding external content wouldn't have achieved that goal, so it wasn't included in this phase.

Because the list of SitePoint's articles I gave them was so long it took them a week just to find eight articles they felt I could best recommend to others.

@Dan Schulz: It would appear you are no longer the master of long lists...

I was hoping a more comprehensive list for PHP. A bunch of really ground breaking articles from outside Sitepoint.

Great List - with a foot each in eCommerce, ASP, SEO & Business I don't have enough feet! But someone having filtered out the best stuff will make my life easier. Thanks

Any advice on how to become a mentor or such here at SP? And what the benefits are?

Give me your immortal soul... no wait, that's not right. Deposit your life savings into this anonymous bank account in the Grand Caymans that SitePoint uses for the annual SPF staff summer getaway... nah, that's not it either. (I'm obviously joking about both here.)

What you need to do is be a helpful member of the community who gives way above and beyond what the others do. Don't just participate - lead. Show others what's possible. That's what I did, as well as all the other staff members. In other words, be the most helpful person you can be (and then some) and when there's an opening, you may or may not be the one selected. In other words, don't call us, we'll call you (if we feel you're Mentor material and can find a team for you, that is).

That reminds me. We need to update the list for 2009. I'll nudge SPHQ about that. Thanks for the bump!
