Broadly speaking, I want to type in a keyword and find out just what types of search queries people are running that involve that keyword. For example, I’d like to be able to enter “police officer”, and find the most common queries involving that keyword / key-phrase; e.g. I’d imagine such a tool would return queries like:
Police officer salary
How much do police officers get paid?
Police officer training
Police officer new york city
etc, etc
(e.g. I’m imagining that those would be common Google searches using my keyword)
The only one I know about at this point is the Google keyword research tool. But any others I should use? Frankly, I’ve been a little underwhelmed with that keyword research tool (yeah, i know it’s free)…it seems to be somewhat wonky / inconsistent. I want to know where else I can look to see what people are searching for.
Make sure to click “only show ideas closely related to my search term”. That might be why you’re getting weird results. You can find another good tool I like in my favorite things. Also, I was told about a tool called Hit Tail recently that looks pretty interesting. It is supposed to tell you what long tail keywords are appropriate for your site that you can go after. I plan to give it a try soon but I haven’t yet.
Well I also use google keywords and so far I am pleased with the result it works better than other tools I’ve tried just make sure to click on the box as WebEminence suggested
with Google’s keyword research tool, try using EXACT and PHRASE match results than the default broad match results. You can get more specific and more filtered results. Check that out on the left side of the keyword tool window. For me, when I use broad matches, I run selected keys to a paid keyword analyzer called Stealth.
