Welcome to the world of CSS. I am so glad and honoured that you picked up this book. Before we embark on this learning journey together, let us first define what is CSS.

Introduction

Now that we’ve covered a basic introduction to web programming, let’s start learning some actual HTML code. In this chapter, we’ll be covering the essentials of HTML. If you are familiar with HTML, you can skip the chapter and go ahead to Chapter 3.

Now that we’ve covered quite a bit of HTML, let’s move on to CSS. CSS stands for Cascading Stylesheet and as the name suggests, CSS is all about styling and making your website look gorgeous.

So far, we’ve covered the basics of HTML and CSS. In this chapter, we’ll start to do some actual CSS coding. Specifically, we’ll learn about the CSS box model and look at how we can modify the look and feel of a box in CSS.

Now that we understand the CSS box model, let’s look at how to use CSS to specify the arrangement of these boxes on our web pages. In this chapter, we’ll be looking at two of the most important concepts in CSS: positioning and floating. Together, these two properties handle the layout of our web pages.

Congratulations. You have now learned a fair bit of CSS. In fact, we have covered most of the important concepts in CSS, including the CSS box model and the idea of floating and positioning. In this chapter, we’ll look at how to pull a disappearing act in CSS.

In this chapter, we’ll learn how to change the background properties of an element. These properties include changing its background color and background image.

Text and font properties in CSS are used to format the appearance of words and text on a webpage. The font property is concerned with how the characters look, such as whether they are ‘fat’ or ‘thin’, ‘big’ or ‘small’, and what font type to use. The text property is used to style everything else. In this chapter, we’ll be covering the text and font properties commonly used.
