Description

Need to build your very first website? You’ve come to the right place! Now in its third edition, this book is the perfect companion to help you accomplish this goal. All you need is a computer with an internet connection and by the end of the book, you’ll know how to build the site, obtain some hosting, promote the site, and keep it running once it’s live. We've updated this SitePoint bestseller to include the latest operating systems and browsers, with an extra four chapters covering social media, HTML5 and CSS3, jQuery, and troubleshooting.

Who is this for?

Build Your Own Website The Right Way is the perfect introduction for web development novices. Assuming you're reasonably confident using a computer, and enjoy browsing the web, you'll find this a gentle introduction to the world of building web pages. We've assumed readers have no prior knowledge of web development, so you'll be introduced to the basics of building a site, hosting it, and maintaining it - and you'll be learning it the right way from the start.

This book is by far one of the most complete books on HTML 5 and CSS3 that I've read. The book is arranged in a logical manner and is easy to follow. I wish I would have found this book a lot sooner. Coupled with the lectures it is a must have. I can see I will be using this book for reference and will treasure it.

Just got started, getting ready to enter chapter 3. Like Ian's style and think I'm getting the big picture.

I've really enjoyed it. Not that far in, but working through it while building a website for my club.

It is very well structured for the beginner and takes you from a state of not knowing anything about the structure and function of hyper text coding to a working level where you can advance yourself to the level of competence that you desire.
