Yahoo's profiling makes you click more

Kinda like how vending machines have conditioned us to act just like lab rats. Lawlz. Push the button and get food.

How Yahoo got to a billion clicks (FastCompany)

Basically, they get people to click more on stuff by personal profiling. They create a profile of you which keeps track of just about everything they can track: where you live, what browser you use, and what you’ve clicked on in the past (or past referrers).

I guess if this could keep crappy useless celebrity junk from showing up in the news, I’d consider letting them set cookies and whatnot. But then I don’t visit Yahoo because the page is full of steaming everything and I like simple clean news like from the BBC or Al-Jazeera (actually Al-Jazeera doesn’t do celebrity crap anyway).

…but they could be doing the same thing! Muhahahah…

So one day I was sitting in my secret lab in my cave underneath the volcano, petting my Persian cat when I got this idea…

Yes, profiling link is great help to have more visits.

I don’t use Yahoo! except to read my e-mail and I don’t visit the home page so… But if they get it right… could this algorithm be adapted to a search engine? Because Bing would love to take some of the share from Google

search engines already do this
