How Yahoo got to a billion clicks (FastCompany)
Basically, they get people to click more on stuff by personal profiling. They create a profile of you which keeps track of just about everything they can track: where you live, what browser you use, and what you’ve clicked on in the past (or past referrers).
I guess if this could keep crappy useless celebrity junk from showing up in the news, I’d consider letting them set cookies and whatnot. But then I don’t visit Yahoo because the page is full of steaming everything and I like simple clean news like from the BBC or Al-Jazeera (actually Al-Jazeera doesn’t do celebrity crap anyway).
…but they could be doing the same thing! Muhahahah…
