I’m taking a poll, trying to decide which Meta tags are worth including an ordinary design by default. Please check all tags that you normally use. Some notes on how you make use of them would also be helpful. Thanks!
Thanks all for your input so far. Other than Felgall, who says why he uses keyword tags, I’m wondering why anyone would. Didn’t Google announce years ago that they were completely ignoring them?
description and keywords. Title is essential.
I really like the descriptions because they are somehow great to use and in most cases by writing some great descriptions, even the clicks numbers would get increased as the people using search engines would be taking a look at the tags.
Mainly Keywords, Description.
description and keywords are the only two I use on all my pages and that’s because the site search script uses those as the information that it searches.
In terms of SEO, the principal one is “description”. Use this to give a short, ahem, description of the page, as it will often appear as the snippet in SERPs. So write it with that in mind - a short sentence or two that gives your potential visitor enough information to believe the page will be useful to them, and to entice them in.
I mostly concentrate on Title and description tag. Title Tag is more important.
<meta http-equiv=“Content-Type” content=“text/html; charset=utf-8”>
<meta http-equiv=“Content-Script-Type” content=“text/javascript”>
<meta http-equiv=“Content-Style-Type” content=“text/css”>
<meta name=“generator” content=“WebHackerPro™ Version 5.937”>
<meta name=“author” content=“Rudy Limeback”>
<meta name=“MSSmartTagsPreventParsing” content=“true”>
<meta http-equiv=“imagetoolbar” content=“no”>
been carrying these around for years, ain’t failed me yet
I mostly use description & keyword meta tags.
If I want to disallow search engine crawlers from viewing my web page, then I’d use robots.
First, <title> is not a <meta> element. What we’re looking at is tags of the form
<meta name=“???” content=“…”>
Second, a <title> is mandatory on every page, so there should be no question as to whether you use it or not.
I always bank on keywords and description.
Too true. It’s called “going off on a tangent.”
come on, kids, please try to pay attention, TITLE is ~not~ a META tag, as you would have seen if you had read the thread
description mainly. Title is essential.
the keywords and description still important
not the keywords, no
Many SEO experts don’t care about meta tags more and don’t use it. I myself don’t use meta tags in my pages as they are not useful for ranking higher.
<meta name='imagetoolbar' content='no' />
Title tag is very important. It should have been included in the options.
