Where / how to download ie6

Hi guys,
I posted a thread reagarding testing in IE on my mac and the reccome dations worked wonderfully. Howeve, I could only test in the default IE 8 and that is because I Could not find The .exe installation files for ie6 or ie7 online.

I would reslly appreciate it if someone could someone show me where to find those files so that I can install them?

Also, a related question is that how can one run or have multiple versions of ie in windows. Because when I downloaded the ie9 beta, it replaced ie8 And I am assuming that once I download ie6 and then ie7, with your guys’ help, won’t they replace the version of ie currently installed?

In other words :), where can.I find installation files for ie6 & 7 And how can I run or just hsve them installed on the same machine, ie6, 7, 8, & 9-beta all at the same time but as separate programmed?

Thanks in Advance,
Team 1504.

IE6 is not a downloadable add-on like IE7 and above are. It’s built into windows 2000 and XP.

Now, because you’re on a mac, this will be a bit of a problem, so you may have to run a virtual machine inside a virtual machine.

Microsoft has Virtual PC images available which are intended for IE-version specific testing.

So, what you might have to do is run XP in virtual box, then inside that, install virtual PC with the image you want from the link above.

Or, if you’re ok with still images, browsershots.org works for the most part.

Thank you. Ill wait for other posts because the thread had been moved, but This is intersting.

And it reminds me of the movie Inception.

I use IE Tester in VMWare Fusion. You need to pay for VMWare but IE Tester is free.
You can run multiple IE versions side by side in tabs. It works in XP, Vista and Windows 7.

Alternately use Tredosoft Multiple IE. It’s only compatible with XP at the moment, but still excellent. You’ll still need VMWare:

The third option is WINE Bottler. I saw someone running IE on a mac natively using WINE a while back but I couldn’t get the thing to install so went back to VMWare. Let me know if you have better results! If you can make it run it looks like it should give a good experience, and it’s free!

IETester has problems with javascript and <button> elements. They either just don’t work or do wacky things. It’s handy for CSS layouts, though.
