Two different domains with same stuff

Guys,

One of my friend has non profit website which has two domain .com and .org. When I came across to the both domains I found same stuff on both domains, exmpl - content, images, links etc there is not a single different thing on both except domain name.

Is this site can be considered as two different sites by Google and is any possibilities to get penalised from google?

Please help me.

If the two sites are being presented as different domains (ie, one doesn’t redirect to the other) then they could be in danger of facing the duplicate content “penalty”.

I’ve put penalty in quotes there because it isn’t really a penalty – Google doesn’t have anything in its algorithm* that says “This page appears to have the same content as another page => so we will lower its ranking”. If it suspects plagiarism, of course, it will drop the site like hot lead, but if it just looks like one webbist who hasn’t been careful about keeping the content properly organised then there is no active penalty.

So what’s the problem? The problem is that all the googlejuice is now split between two sites. The inbound links are split between two sites. You’ve got two sites that are competing against each other rather than joining forces to outrank other sites. If you have a single site with all those inbound links pointing to the same place, it will be much stronger and will do better in the rankings than when everything is split between two.

*as far as we know

Yeah, domain won’t redirect. I was having little worry about the same just was waiting for the confirmation. And really thank to spent time to answer. I will talk to my friend to make the require changes.

I think it is just redirect on other, there is no duplication there. But if it has hosted on different server and crawl different with same content then it create problem and chance to get penalize.

if your friends website hosted on same server with same content then it wont create any problem but if both running on different server with same content then definitely there is a chance to be penalize because google consider it duplicacy.

I think one site is redirecting the another, like getafreelancer(dot)com is redirecting now - freelancer(dot)com .

May be the .org domain was old & now your fiend has updated his site with .com domain & redirecting the previous one to this new one! It’ll not harm him.

Wait!? Didn’t I post here? It got removed? FYI I should be able to say I agree with the previous poster. That’s all I said. Validation brings strength to the post I agreed with. One is random. Two is word.
