Standard Rate for 500 word Article?

I also know people who write 500 words for $75.

Funny, I know people who don’t do word counts and are paid $2,000 to $15,000 per piece.

Yeah, they might do it on a per page basis, or just look at the overall research involved in doing the work and quote the price accordingly. Word-count really does not matter here, it is the content and the quality that’s given more preference.

There is no standard blanket rate because it depends on the topic and knowledge required.

If you are after crap content filler then you might find the standard person from India might churn out 500 word content for $2-5 per article

If you’re talking about a medical field with highly specialized knowledge then expect the cost to be 10 to 20 times more.

Overall it’s worth spending a little more to get some research and skilled people working on your articles

If you want a crappy article, you pay 2-3$, for quality the fees go much higher…

When I was writing content I would write bulk articles for $10, or if it was a feature article I would get $25 - 100. But that is only after you build up a reputation.

In fact I averaged about $700 a month freelance writing part time.

As a content writer by trade, I typically charge between $15 and $25 for a 500 word article that requires virtually no research. (Stuff like “How to Buy Car Insurance.”) But for actual insightful blog posts with original analysis, I charge $50 or more.

But on the other side of the coin, I’ve paid as little as $5 a piece for articles to fill out a website. Almost all of them were unreadable and pointless, however.

Like everyone else says, your price will depend on quality. It’s like asking “What’s the standard rate for a bottle of wine?” It all depends on your purpose–you can pay $5 for a bottle of Boone’s Farm if all you want is a light buzz and a headache, but if you want to christen the Titanic you might want something a bit more distinguished.

I guess in my mind I’d break down like this:

Filler content for SEO that no human will lay eyes on: $5
Blog post: $25
Sales copy: $50
Homepage or landing page: $75 and up

What do they write about that gets them $15,000?

What do they write about that gets them $15,000?

Copy that sells $120,000 to $300,000 in products or services. Articles which establish the client as a recognized expert, not a commodity schmoe not even worth the dirt cheap price they paid. And white papers that do much of the selling work of complex sales to lucrative clients.

It’s not what you pay for writing. It’s whether what you get makes what you pay insignificant.

Writing isn’t a cost. Typing drivel is a cost.

And the mindset that defies comprehension of ever paying more than pennies for content – that’s a huge cost.
