Site Map

I created sitemap for a website and tried to submit it to the Google webmaster tools, But it shows an error like this “Your Sitemap appears to be an HTML page. Please use a supported sitemap format instead.” Kindly advice me what to do next.

Perhaps this can help by going to “Submit a sitemap to Google Webmaster Tools” link in Google Search. I’m not sure if I’m allowed to post links here. I might get banned. Hope it can help you.

What to do next is to create a correct sitemap that won’t be rejected. There are plenty of tools available to help you do that.

If you are asking why your sitemap was rejected, it’s impossible for us to tell you that - although the fact the error message said that it looked like an HTML page is a clue. How did you go about creating it? Are you aware that sitemaps are XML rather than HTML?

No, you won’t get banned for posting a link, provided the link is relevant to your answer and provides genuinely useful information that will help answer the question. In this case, posting the search term is just as good, as it is likely to lead the questioner to exactly the information he needs.
