In the first 4 days I made 4 sales so I thought I was on to a winner. I wasn’t getting much traffic and hadn’t really started advertising. The problem is since then I haven’t made any sales at all even though I have started advertising now and getting positions on the search engines. My vistors are on the increase every day. Here are some of the stats:
Today I have about 100 visitors (about 20 of those came from google ads).
The average visitor views 4-5 pages and stays on each page for an average of 30 seconds.
25% of my visitors are return visitors.
My prices are generally lower than any of the main competitors.
I just can’t understand why it got off to a good start but has now stalled even though on paper the stats seem okay.
Does anyone know why my sales would have hit a brick wall? Did I just get lucky in the beginning? Or do I just need to be patient?
Be patient. I have been selling on the web for 9 years now, the sales are very erratic and seasonal too. Some days there are several sales, some days are non. Just because you advertise does not mean that the clicks lead to sales.
My sales are often strong around holidays and special days when people like to give gifts. They are weak in the summer month because my product is more geared towards providing warmth.
Business is that way sometimes. You have to live with it.
While you raise your mouth to blow your trumpet, keep a handkerchief aroud you to clean your tears too.
I’ve noticed all sorts of things affect how my websites do. The biggest factor in the UK is the weather! A nice sunny day and no-one goes on line. A big sporting event (like the World Cup) also reduces sales. The week after Christmas is always great though as everyone plays with their new PC’s and laptops.
It might be worth you checking your keywords for your ads though. You be getting traffic from the ads, but not the traffic that’s likely to buy. Better to get fewer clicks that buy something than many clicks that don’t.
