Restaurants with 2 locations. Subdomain? Two different domains? Or directory?

I have a wordpress site already set up at www.theyardpgh.com. The site has good standing with google and good search results. Well the owners are opening up a new location. One in an area called Shadyside, the other Market Square. What is the best way to go about this? I don’t want to lose the rep I built with google. And they want a landing page for both sites.

Option 1

theyardpgh.com is the landing page.
theyardpgh.com/shadyside for one location (wordpress)
theyardpgh.com/market-square for the second location (wordpress)

Option 2

theyardpgh.com is the landing page.
shadyside.theyardpgh.com/ for one location (wordpress)
market-square.theyardpgh.com/ for the second location (wordpress)

Option 3

theyardpgh.com is the landing page.
theyardshadyside.com for one location (wordpress)
theyardoarketsquare.com for the second location (wordpress)

My vote for option 1. Since it is just two locations of single company I don’t see why they should be situated on different domains.

I’d go with single domain and sub folders for each location. Sub domains and new domains won’t share the good standing you already have - as you mentioned.

Having said that, watch this Webinar fro SEMRush for some ideas on developing local strategies: http://www.semrush.com/webinars/Understanding-Localized-Google-SEO/

Thank you both for your replies!

Subdomains won’t quite share link juice and SEO effects as well as subdirectories. Go with subdirectories. Make sure you Silo your content on the main site to focus content on those subdirectory (locations), independently:
