Those two things contradict one another. Wordpress is the very definition of average in this industry. Nothing great will come from learning to maintain and churn out WordPress websites.

The entire order of judgment or contradiction is in your mind. Like a mind can choose to be optimistic or pessimistic.

Your thinking is very dogmatic. The moment you come out of the locked thinking of that “Building resume(certificates, degrees etc) and working for the corporate” is the only thing you can do in life you will not have the exploratory mind.

Wordpress itself is estimated to be billions of dollar of Industry and WordPress has a huge share of empowering websites(between 25% to 37% of the total website that exists) as such it opens the huge entrepreneurial prospect who can trap such opportunities.

Again,

If you will look at the perspective with only one possibility “job” then you will come out with such adjectives as:

1. Low Paid
2. Under Paid
3. Hot(Java/.Net) etc

I have seen this problem with many of my friends who can’t think beyond 9-5 job;. they can’t think beyond building a resume and shifting from one company to another. I have left that suffocating life, and walked miles now. I could not waste my precious life in that 9-5 job wearing a tag of a company in my neck that was killing my life force and suffocating my existence.

You’ll just end up in a sea of under paid and appreciated individuals all doing the same thing. Competing with off shore workers for work from low-quality clients.

It’s not that I am making fun of such people as everyone has his/her choices, but before being so Judgemental open up your mind and realize the Low quality/ High quality is in your mind. All your locked thinking is coming form because you have never explored any option in life other than working for corporate firms.

Open up your locked mind and do some google, and find out the Potential of how much possibility is Wordpress offering as a product-driven Industry.

One good product, and if it is a Hit → It can at least make you a millionaire(that doesn’t happen overnight, but with a keen eye on details and with a lot of patience and enthusiasm), and spice up the journey for the future entrepreneurial endeavor.

P.S. → Anyways I didn’t want to give a speech here because this forum is not a fit for that. I only wanted to convey don’t be judgemental and open up your mind to explore the World around you(Only If you have developed your mind to be exploratory with years of critical thinking).

But even though I agree with you, I also agree with @ZooKeeper in that making a life out of Wordpress or the ‘small’ web can be very difficult and very painful. Clients normally don’t have the money to pay for all your work, yet they still want all the bells and whistles… you have to be extremely good at what you do, and also very importantly, at managing client expectations and protecting yourself against scope creep.

What program do you think you would have fun writing, which is also challenging but not too much?
I think anything goes so long as it sparks your interest

You have assumed a lot, created a notion and then perception and of course conclusion.

Analogy: Hen came out of the eggshell, and in a second it became a dinosaur(or perhaps died) → that’s the power of a judgemental thinking.

The whole self help book thing isn’t really for me but to each their own. No one is going to build an empire creating WordPress sites unless there is a much larger idea in play.

Is there any list of programmes that one can build one after another so that he can learn PHP because we live in an age where there is so much information and we often tend to be information paralyzed.

The best way is I guess is to build small PHP programmes. Can I get a List of all Php Programmes between 5-10 in numbers that can help me master core PHP concepts?

I can’t help thinking this thread has drifted way off topic. Maybe we should get back to that?

Even if you don’t get into TDD (Test Driven Development) it would be a habit worth having and it will help you become more familiar with the PHP Core.
