I am planning on setting up a website here in Australia on a certain topic.
Lets just say it’s about apples!!
Currently when I google search ‘good apples’ the USA website goodapples.com comes up first in searches.
I want to name my website goodapples.com.au (The Australian Version) cause I’m in Australia.
What I want to know is, once I have my sites set up and as long as all other SEO stuff is done… when people living in Australia search ‘good apples’ on google, will my site come up first over the USA site of the same name?
I really want that same name, but I don’t want an Australian customer searching it and finding my American competitors site first over my Australian site.
Does that make any sense? Or am I better off just choosing a different name all together?
That is not recommended to have dash in the domain name while without dash domain name is available for the registration.
You will be developing your web site for Aussie market and I suppose that your position on the SERP will depend on the SEO you will have done then on your domain name.
Just make sure you do not violate any trade mark rules.
You can rank on the top for this keyword, however, you may have to do some basic SEO. Directory Submissions, Link Building, Press Release Submission should help you to achieve the first position
Just because you will have the .co.au domain, it doesn’t mean you’ll automatically be ranked first when Australians do a search. While Google will take into account your obvious target audience, it remains only a factor out of hundreds that influence a page’s ranking.
In other words, if you want to rank high for “good apples”, even if only for Australian searches, whichever way you go, you’ll still have to do quite a bit of SEO, or otherwise get people to link to your site’s pages freely, by wowing them with unique, well written content, or great offers, high quality apples, if you’re selling the stuff.
and as long as all other SEO stuff is done…
SEO is not a precise recipe. On page factors, which you can control, often account for little, if they’re not validated by outside links. So, you can’t really ever say “I’ve done all the necessary SEO stuff”. There is always someone who may be doing more, or better, and beat you in this game. The only way to say that your SEO work is over and done, is to have a Pagerank of 10 and have all the pages on the web link to yours, as soon as they’re created.
Your google ranking purely depends on how much search engine friendly your site is… A basic SEO strategy, with few directory submission and link building techniques should be able to rank you. However it may take quite some time for that…
The time measures will depend on the keywords and how competitive they are at the moment. I believe for some competative keywords that will take ages to get into TOP10.
Google will always return the most relevant results based on the searchers’ preference. Most likely, your site will outrank sites targeting other countries over time.
As for domain name, I would advise you to go for the one without ‘-’ if it is still available =)
