Name servers

I want to set up 2 name servers so that I can point domains that are hosted else where to my name servers. Problem being I have one name server and you need to enter 2 for it to work. How do I set up a second one?

You will have to do this as follows:
ns1.yourdomain.com => IP(ns1)or if you have a dedicated IP then this will go here
ns2.yourdoamin.com => IP (ns2)

You can’t generate one, you have to buy it.

Hi,

You’ll either have to contact your hosting company, or your ISP (if you’re hosting it at home). If you’re hosting it at home, you’re less likely to be able to get a 2nd IP, unless you’re on a more business oriented connection.

Thanks,

Hi,

How are you running the first? What software etc.? The easiest way is to just get another IP for the same DNS server and run them both from the same instance (you’d be amazed how many hosting companies do this) - it won’t give you redundancy, but it will work. The other option is to setup your own secondary DNS server as a slave to the primary, or pay someone to host secondary for you.

Thanks,

I am using webmin and virtual min on a centos 5 os, how do I generate another ip for the dns server?

Hey i think the service provider are providing 2 nameservers. if you got one then just ask for other. contact that service provider. don’t worry dude. Good Luck
