I used the JavaScript for Dummies one; but really, I honestly believe that you can learn JavaScript for the most part by using online tutorials. I know some people like to read a book though and have exercises to do and well, the JavaScript For Dummies book includes that as well as a CD with examples and stuff.
I wonder if @jamesthemonkeh; is refering to “Simply Javascript”? On a related note @HAWK; does HQ have any plans to publish an updated version of “Simply Javascript” at some point in the future?
The same thought crossed my mind, but Simply JS got quite good reviews, too.
It is a bit dated however and the world of JS has moved on considerably in the time since it was written.
Though not a book, Kevin Yank’s Learnable video course is effectively an update of the book. It follows the same lines as the book but has some more modern methods and uses jQuery instead of the the book’s core library.
It’s Learnable’s most popular course, and certainly worth taking. I know it has launched some JavaScript careers over the past few years.
Considering that was published in 2007, bad or good reviews aside, IMHO it would be better to find something more recent and leave that for studying how JavaScript used to be.
