Hi All,
I have created few lens in Squidoo. But those pages newer indexed in search engine, I do some bookmarking for my lens page too, no use. Then finally I came to know that the page will never index in search engine. Because I saw a meta tag in view source.
<meta name=“robots” content=“noindex, nofollow” />
So this line shows that the page never index in google. Then what is the use of creating lens in squidoo
yes squido lens have its own worth in SEO activities…a time comes when its get its own PR…a link from squido towards your site has its own value…google count that as a backlink.
Sheesh… last time I saw squidoo.com it was a place where you could buy and sell artwork (especially 3D models). Talk about a massive change in direction!!!
(Edit: sorry, that was turbosquid.com lol… I guess I’m getting old and mixing up my squids)
I have 10 Squidoo lenses (that’s what they call their individual webpages).
Some of the links I have placed on these lenses show up as links in Google Webmaster tools. So, there is limited value there.
The number of clickthro’s from my lenses to my main website per month is usually a big fat ZERO. So, no value there.
Forget their shared revenue program from advertising. After two years, I’m still nowhere near reaching $1. So, no value there.
Since the recent google algorithm changes, Squidoo’s business model seems to have taken a nosedive. So much so that, now, Squidoo is now making more demands on their contributors. Meaning you have to jump through even more hoops to get a backlink or two. And, they are increasingly treating their contributors in a high-handed manner, as if their contributors depended on them and not the other way around which is the real situation.
Considering the effort and time it takes to create a lense, I’m not bothering to put up any new content.
Even a NoFollow link is arguably important for your site. Think about it… if you have a site without one single nofollow link - isn’t that a bit more shady looking?
Don’t focus heaps of attention on them but make sure you don’t avoid them altogether.
Plus squidoo can rank highly for terms giving you extra traffic.
Well,
I am Lensmaster, i made 100s of lenses so far, for a number of mine and client’s sites. It simply works, Google loves Squidoo backlinks to your site. These backlinks are DoFollow, at the same time Hubpages is another great site. Squidoo and Hubpages are coming from same family. I am amazed with results from both sites.
Our sites rank well and increase in SERP when you own quality contextual backlinks from Squidoo and Hubpages.
Regards !
No need to worry. Links in squiddo changes to dofollow soon. Here is the reason. When you create a lens without publishing it, squidoo thinks you are still working on it. You will need to add some modules. And not just any modules. You will have to wait for a few days to get visits to it. To avoid spammy lenses which are nothing but some ebay modules, and other sales modules, squidoo ads nofollow to it initially.
The best way to avoid this is:
Try to add more text modules. Say, 3 of them.
Try editing your lens for a couple of days. For example, if you have a text module, just edit it and then publish. This is just to inform squidoo that you are making your lens fresh. And squidoo loves it.
And within next 3-4 days, all your links will be dofollow.
Isn’t that the family of sites that Google specifically targetted in their latest update so as to move them way down the results and move more relevant pages up in their place?
But back to the topic…if your main reason to create a squido lens is to get a link…then the time and effort that is required into achieving that is not worth, simple put. Just as much squidoo might have power to pass through link juice (through their internal pages and external) there are ten more then have a bigger or similar power. Thing is, the day when these type of sites will get slapped they will start to b… and cry, right after that a nofollow on links, noindex etc… will be added.
Long story made short, use your content for something better, that can be easily syndicated through other sites…and you will be fine.
Interesting discussion on Squidoo. I’ve been thinking about creating some lenses simply for SEO, but it seems like it’s not worth it. Thanks for all the info!
you can get the backlink from Squidoo which has it’s own importance for sure. But the lens must be featured in squidoo. The green sign beside the lens indicated that your lens is featured & it can be found in the search in squidoo.
