It's not a bad choice if you're looking to be in the business of science. For every programmer, engineer or researcher there are many complemtary operations, marketing and sales people. While it's certainly not a requirement to get an MBA, those looking to transition immediately or down the road to a management role often find that an MBA helps demonstrate their understanding of the business side of things.
Personally I'm not a fan of an MBA direct from undergraduate or schooling as I think they can only really add value if you've worked for a number of years and are stepping up specific skills and presentation abilities but that's another side of the topic.
Thus the question gets back to what many others have asekd -- what does she want to do? And why would she want an MBA now?
