I already have apache php & mariadb set up locally on my machine.
Could it be a conflict of database ports?

Any suggestions of where to further investigate would be welcome.

Many thanks.

You will either need to stop mariadb locally or change the port in docker-compose.yml. Find the mariadb section and change 3306:3306 to 3307:3306, then configure the connection in mysql workbench to connect on 3307.

Hi Tom
Thanks for that - that fixed the problem.
Also had to change the web: ports: from 80:80 to 8080:80 to listen to nginx instead of my apache installation.
Many thanks.
Cheers
Max
