I’ve seen that before in Firefox (when I upgraded to v3 and it turned out to be a Firefox setting that somehow got corrupted…), but never in Opera. Sorry
Make sure you haven’t accidentally set Opera to ‘no images’ or ‘cached images only’ instead of ‘show all images’. I don’t remember exactly where the option was in 9.27, but in 9.51 it’s in the View/Images menu. You can also press Shift+I to toggle between the three values.
Yeh, it’s odd! Although it’s not a corrupt install because we’ve tested this on about four different machines now, it’s unlikely to be a cache issue as it happens from a fresh install. Might be an internal proxy issue or something but the fact it only occurs in one specific version of Opera is utterly strange.

That did enter my head but it occurs from a fresh install, so either it’s an Opera bug specific to that version or some default that’s been changed in 9.27.
The image appears if you reload it, I should have mentioned that, and it works if you request it directly. Looking at the properties, it has actually got the file size, but not dimensions.
Doesn’t seem to be any pathing issues on the images, and have tried reducing simultaneous connections in network preferences. Still no idea!
That’s really odd. I did use 9.27 for a while (both on WinXP and Linux), but found it very unstable. Didn’t encounter the problem you’re having, though.
Now I’m using 9.51 which is just great (except for an annoying minor bug with https). Is there any reason you’re using 9.27 in particular, instead of the latest version?
Well, a tester was checking the site and they happened to have that version of Opera, so given there could still be a fair few people using that version it makes sense to try and find a solution.
Ah, OK. As usual when there’s a major release, there are a few conservatives that wail and gnash their teeth and moan about how their favourite browser is going down the drain because not everything looks or works exactly the same as it did.
I’ve seen quite a few of those on the Opera Community Forums, stating that they’re going back to 9.27 and would rather die than use 9.5x. Although I think some of the minor changes are negative, most of the changes are definite improvements.
In general, the Opera community tends to be very good at upgrading. I still see the occasional straggler with Opera 7 on my blog, but usually the latest version is used by a vast majority within a week after being launched. Therefore I admit that I normally don’t bother testing support for older Opera versions.
Yeh you will always get that to some extent, personally I think the new Opera is far, far better. Anyway thanks for the thoughts and I will update the thread if we do get to the bottom of this.
