How to find out the Demographics for my niche before building my Site

Hi there, this is my 1st post here so I apologise if this question seems stupid. I would like to know how to find out the Demographics for my niche ( a domestic/commercial cleaning website) before building my Site. I have read a few books that emphasize the importance of this in order to know what Browsers to design for, etc. So far I’ve tried searching Alexa.com for popular Cleaning sites for here in Australia but when I go to the “Audience” tab for these sites, no data is available for Age, etc. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers.

To find out what countries mostly interested in your keywords try to search you keywords through Google search insights http://www.google.com/insights/search/. I don’t think there will be any service that can tell you anything about the demographics of your audience.

Ok jacksters, will do thanks for that.

Glad to help you.

Hi kirwan1414 and welcome to the forums. If you concentrate on writing good clean HTML and CSS code, then your site will display correctly in all modern browsers and you will have fewer problems to worry about in very old browsers. If you need any help with that, you can find it here on the forums.

Hi TechnoBear, I’ve been careful to write clean code so, so far so good. Although I wish Browsershots was a wee bit quicker as my submissions have largely timed out - lol

Excellent.

Personally, I’d forget about demographics. How’s that supposed to help with determining what browser somebody is using, anyway? Do all over-60’s run Windows XP with IE7, or something? Keep an eye on general browser usage trends and go from there. You’re aiming for a pretty wide market anyway, I’d have thought, so design for the population at large.

thanks jacksters for the recommendation. Google insight really gives you enough info. i just tried and loved it.

Yes TechnoBear, I kind of knew my market was quite wide. I suppose I am more concerned for future sites that I may build, where it may not be quite so obvious who your average user may be. So I’m going to take your advice & design for the population in general.

Cheers
