I have been asked to put together a print design that will be used on vans, my background is very much in the web but I would like to give this project a go.
Are there any design considerations I need to think about, dpi, dimensions etc?
All advice would be great!

yes there are!
I would suggest using a vector software like illustrator for this project! Working with vector will allow you to produce large dimensions without losing any quality!
Always work in CMYK mode.
If you are going to work on this project with Photoshop (raster) then work in CMYK, large resolution (i.e. 600ppi), leave bleed borders (something like 0.5cm from each side) and of course work with the real final dimensions you are going to print.

Totally agree with DT. Excellent advice and if you take heed you’ll avoid all the typical nasty surprises that befall people crossing over from web to print.
