Hi everyone,

I’m looking for advice on free, long-term methods to improve Domain Authority for a content-focused website, without paid backlinks or link schemes.

The site I’m working on is here for reference:

It’s an informational platform around IQ testing, cognitive skills, and related educational content. The site already has:

  • Original long-form articles

  • Structured internal linking

  • Clean technical setup (Core Web Vitals, mobile-first, indexing)

What I’m trying to improve now organically is DA and overall authority.

I’d really appreciate insights on:

  • Free backlink sources that have actually worked for you (forums, communities, publications)

  • Whether expert-exchange style answers still provide SEO value today

  • Content formats that naturally attract links in the education / psychology niche

Also, Sitepoint is, and has been for decades, not a source for backlinks nor DA. It’s all been entirely disavowed. Whatever list you scraped the site off of is lying to you.

What specific tactics are you seeing work today to increase PageRank / authority for informational sites?

Concretely:

  • What earns followed editorial links now?

  • What types of pages actually attract citations?

  • Any repeatable patterns you’ve seen beyond “make good content”?

I’m not looking for lists or legacy forum drops, just real tactics that still move the needle.

Nope. Because if there is a method to gain “page rank” (not what its actually called anymore, especially as theres no such things as ranks) or DA (a quasi arbitrary number noone actually cares about other than Moz) then… theyre not going to post it on a forum. because if youve got a magic bullet that raises you compartively to other sites, and you put it out in public… your magic disappears very quickly. If everyone’s doing X, then X doesnt increase you compared to them.

What earns quality backlinks? Having a quality site. Is it fast? No. Is it going to generate you money tomorrow? No.

Since you have an informational site, creating “linkable assets” like interactive data visualizations or comprehensive whitepapers can trigger natural acquisition. I’ve found that search engines are heavily prioritizing “EEAT” signals now, so having your content cited in actual academic or high-trust publications is worth more than a hundred low-tier directory links. It’s about building a semantic relationship between your domain and the authority sites in the education space.
