Freestockphotos is a good site if those picture large enough and clear enough.
Thanks for share these site list.

I speak for myself, but I’d like to recommend you www.photolicence.com
Some pics are on sale, but you can filter the non-commercial photos.
It’s a good deal for photographers looking for some income too, since the a photo can be sold for $100 (althought the currency is euro), and the authors gets 50%o of its price. www.photolicence.com

(While this is a very old thread I thought it most appropriate to post here because I have an addition to the list of free stock photography websites.)

http://www.openstockphotography.org (They offer over 900K of free images … powered by Wikipedia)

Freerange Stock - http://www.freerangestock.com

Wow, I just checked this one out photodesign. I love it! It’s like a toystore for me. Thank you very much. I will be using this great resource for sure! I’m an image junkie, and I handle images the same way I handle cooking. Nothing ever ends up just like the original recipe I’m working with because I tweak and play with colors, light, segments, sizes, putting two images together that don’t belong that way… I can keep going, but I won’t.

I have also checked out several of the other sites here. I think I’ve hit the motherload!

<removed - no, they are not free>

torrent style downloads…i think they are free!!Haven’t checked it out fully yet!

CD/Album covers are copyrighted. Only the artists/publishers can give them away for free.
The site you linked to is a copyright infringer.

Really helpful and useful list!! thanks!!!

Does anyone know where I could get free cartoon type images? I want them for my kids school website.

now, does anybody know where I can find (on which site, since not all of them have 'em) illustrations such as this collection:

for free, of course…

I still can’t justify spending $600+ USD for a collection of images that I won’t benefit much from…

wow. great list, all those istockphoto competitors

dont know if anyone mentioned this before…

I work for a news site so I know a few things about copyright and such for high profile or frequently used image matter, and I have a few useful tips:

  1. Anything by the United States government is totally copyright free, hence the noaa photos

  2. Wikipedia is a quick place to go for free photos of people and other things which are usually heavily copyrighted.

  3. Logo’s of anything are considered fair use when shrunk and used in conjunction with journalism…IE. an article about microsoft can use a windows logo under fair use.

For such purpose many artists (including ourselves) will give you those for free, you just need to ask

As for ourselves, credit - with or without backlink - would be nice but not obligatory

PM me for link… or check my sig

You’ll hardly find such quality images for free but you can find similar vectors at microstock sites for a few bucks per image

Thanks for the information.Do all the sites give free downloads without watermark

Some of them do offer daily free images without watermark (Fotolia, Dreamstime, etc).

Thanks the great thread, it will be very useful to me.

For some reason is my favorite.

wow, iTec really knows his stuff! A couple more that aren’t FREE, but are incredibly cheap are www.istockphoto.com and www.stockxpert.com… web images can be as low as $1!
