I don’t have this view myself, but I have no trouble understanding it.
I almost never answer my phones - i have the phone because I need it, not because others need it
That is impressive. I mean, if you dedicate weeks of your own time to help your family, and don’t get a dime for it. I can understand it if it’s just small things, but say if they were building a new garage, and you spend 3 weeks of the summer helping them, without a dime - that’s impressive

I do just sit in my room!
[/quote]
and never help with anything at all?!
so money give you the power to enslave the others in the house, while you, with your money, is free from bondage. that is interesting…
Would you consider it ineffective if it could benefit you in any way?
Ha ha, I have to agree with you here.
so your money lasts forever and will make you live healthy forever, as there is no limits to what it can do for you?
that is one of the strangest things I’ve ever heard…
No, but I’m not gonna list my chores now, c’mon. Besides I thought the discussion is about helping someone when it doesn’t benefit you, not getting around your own home.
I don’t know how to begin to even comment on that. What kind of ideas you’ve got there, man, c’mon get a grip of yourself, you’re losing it! You’ve got some strange understanding of money there, I’m surprised at you.
If money is just form of help in this statement, they are interchangeable. Here’s what happens when you make the change:
so help (that you provide) gives you the power to enslave the others in the house, while you, with your help, is free from bondage
What’s that?
Or is it something else you mean? Like bills to pay maybe!? Man, if you lived under my roof and brought that kind of talk here… I’d make sure you know what slavery means :whip: Everyone’s free to leave this “slavery” at their will. You should know that he who is enslaved by money is the agent of his own enslavement.
Yes, the effectiveness isn’t limited to just absence of benefit. Obviously there’s 0% effectiveness of use of my time when I’ve no benefit, but it doesn’t mean it’s effective enough if there’s some benefit and if I can use it to do other more effective things.
No, I’m talking about limit in quantity not in what it can do. That’s the strangest interpretation I’ve ever heard!
But that’s what help means. If you get paid it’s a business contract. Or is it slavery?
First I have to say that I’m enjoying this thread more and more
Just testing you
your guard was wide open here, and i just couldn’t resist taking advantage of it
I could almost see you sitting there in your room, surrounded by old pizza boxes and empty beer cans, waving with a whip, and some money to pay the bills hahaha
:smoke:
not necessary, as you may need money to survive =:stir:
you sound like a busy man. do you live in a city, or out in the country?
so, money is a tool - or maybe not? :inspector:
then you haven’t heard much :p:rofl:
dude, you think too much about money :<
Very intriguing and interesting to hear your answers, and I got to practice small talking
If you are talking about your family, then definitely you should help for free. But, helping various families is your profession, then you can charge them you deserve to get such services!!!
In which case you may not want to help your family or need of money if they have been transformed into flesh eating zombies and have you on the menu. [/ot]
I don’t quite know where money came into the equation. I was under the impression the topic was more of family bonding and responsibility and generic help, being good neighbour and so forth. Rather than offering financial help.
Clearly Ken seems to only want to mainly help his family if they have real authentic needs rather than ones he believes they are capable of doing themselves.
Some cool stereotypes you have attached in your mind to me there. The trend of you being evil continues. FYI, I don’t eat pizza, don’t drink beer (often enough to be surrounded by beer cans anyway), don’t eat much at all, don’t like clutter so I’m not surrounded by anything. Oh and I don’t have a whip. I have a club handy, though, which I’m looking to upgrade to a baseball bat for that little extra touch.
That doesn’t imply absence of freedom.
Small town for the past 3 years. My busyness is not much to do with location. You try to manage some 200 sites… madness! Wouldn’t say I’m necessarily using my time effectively, and it has to change. Looking forward to getting rid of a lot of those little buggers.
Blasphemer! Money is our Lord almighty, the creator of our world, we exist only because of it and only for it, we must worship it for everything it has given us.
Bold words coming from someone who charges for his “help”.
It’s not small talk, it’s a discussion. Small talk is what weather we’re having or what you had for breakfast today. Yeah, I’m that good at small talk!
Blown out of proportions? Are you kidding? Have you seen the IQ vs EI thread?
just testing your memory, as we already talked about these things :juggle:
luckily i don’t have to :find:
You should increase the number of sites hosted on yr server in Dallas - and update the blogs more often, you lazy man :<
I know exactly what you mean. I try, but there’s always so much more funny things than work going on in my life
if it don’t make you >$5 a day, get rid of it…
Now, that’s evil :witch:
I never charge for help, as i don’t like money - if i charge, it is only to ease their conscience
no it isn’t, it’s small talk - it started as a discussion but it went straight down the hill - but then, i’m not that good at small talk so maybe you’re right ha ha :aparty:
You should rely less on the accuracy of the whois database. The machine itself is in Houston.
P.S. Stop snooping around!
Actually, I consider having fun to be the most effective use of time, and I’m not doing it enough by far.
Aha! So you’re not indifferent to money, you have emotions for it - you don’t like it. That tells so many things…
I’m not but to me that’s a compliment.
That site is an old project that flopped due to sheer laziness, abandoned long ago, but it actually had potential and I think still has. It’s just a front for amazon now, but I actually did sell scarves and even sold one.
And you’re not helping getting it back on track at all!
Someday I’ll be that old man insisting on doing it himself regardless of what others say.
I recently paid good money to have my garage finished (so I could avoid doing it myself), only to redo all the mistakes that the contractor made. I guess it’s just a quirk of mine.
When I go visit relatives, I often ask, “Is there anything that needs fixing?” as soon as I walk in the door.
who needs the whois db, 'n I was thinking more 'bout the hq, than their 5 nw locations…
?? :inspector:
 I couldn’t agree more. if it weren’t for the fun in life, i don’t know what to do
only that money makes people wanna change - people don’t change! money has so many negative sides to it, and people gives it too much value
a friend of mine came back after living 16 yrs in another country - he got some work here and earned ~2 times more than he did where he had been living/working before moving. he was in ecstasy, proclaiming that he got a new life - which i just corrected him and told him no, it’s only money, you just got money.
Money doesn’t make anyone do anything. It doesn’t come in a ski mask with a gun and tells you to do something or else. Due to its universal nature it is neutral. It doesn’t have value in its self, it only represents value of other things. People who value money as a thing simply don’t understand how it works. Surprisingly, it’s the majority of people.
Now, when it comes to the current money mechanism, I don’t like it either. As it is fiat money based on debt, you’d be smart to get rid of it as soon as you get it. I’d rather make people pay me in gold, but people don’t seem to have gold these days. I suspect more people will be hating money soon, so much so that they will be burning it for heat
I’d rather make people pay me in gold, but people don’t seem to have gold these days.
Heavier than paper and only good for ugly jewelry and semiconductors and audio equipment.
Unless you just happen to actually like the metal gold, why would you want anyone to pay you in it? Ain’t nobody going to want to give you food or clothing or anything of value for some metal (unless they want to make some ugly jewelry or something).
Now salt… salt has value. You can do a lot of bartering with salt after the monetary system dies because of the zombpocalypse.
Yeah, gold has little intrinsic value, it’s pretty much useless. But it’s money, better than fiat money in that it’s scarce and cannot be printed by tonne. Even though people have left gold based monetary system, they have not forgotten it. Strangest thing, it has become a commodity. And for whatever weird reason, I think even during zombpocalypse, they will still see gold as money. At the very least, it’s heavy and you can throw it at zombies.
I strongly suspect a lot of the crazier survivalists (who have been stockpiling gold for decades) will see gold as worth something intially… until they realise they can’t find anyone else who wants it (who has something else of worth like food or clothing). Initially, gold (and other precious metals) were worth something purely because a few wanted it and it was scarce. This worked for the Maori and jade for centuries. But gold’s been mined intensively. It’s not really that scarce anymore. And unless there’s the demand of those who simply want to have it (or do something useful with it), its worth for bartering won’t be what it was.
Strangest thing, it has become a commodity.
Salt. I’m tellin’ ya. There’s too much of it everywhere to be worth anything right now (esp in indestructable snack foods), but say several years after the zombpocalypse, when the Last Men On Earth (known phrase) are farming everything, it will be big. Both a commodity and bartering/monetary unit.
Helping old people/family as well, surely. Since Romero has taught us that what kills off the survivors in the end is other people rather than the zombies, being nice/helpful in a careful way may increase your odds of surviving.
And maybe increase karma points for the remaining gods, if you’re stocking up for the afterlife as well.
It is. They’re not mining that much of it to make it not scarce. My bet is on it being money at least for a few more centuries.
But it’s consumable. Money can’t be consumable. It’s just another commodity for bartering, so might as well use sacks of potatoes, wheat, sugar, etc. Which is all cool but very inconvenient. So some commodity that fits to be money best will naturally become money eventually. I don’t think it would be salt because it melts in water.
Isn’t that what money already does? I mean, you get brownie points for doing something good, and to be able to track it you get an IOU - that’s money.
