i was using dreamhost.com since 2 years but now they are just messed up, i did host my one friend’s movie site and he was just hosting images on the site and rest of all links were off site, they got a copyright complain and they banned my account without any warning, this is totally messed up
There are many large hosting companies but they never do like this, first they warn and then they take action even they just remove that copyright content or max they block your site but these dogs just banned the whole account without any warning
be careful guys, they are very dangerous and they can harm you anytime so i’d advise to avoid using www.dreamhost.com
You won’t get much sympathy here when the site you run is illegal. It was the right thing to do for Dreamhost to ban anything related to your movie site once they were aware of it. They don’t want to be dragged into court for turning a blind eye to contributory copyright infringement.
Dan is right. Hosting you was like keeping a ticking bomb inside the house.
first they warn and then they take action even they just remove that copyright content
In the US, they have to remove access to the content expeditiously. There’s no warning. The images hosted may very well still be infringing copyright if there’s no agreement with the copyright owner that you may use them. You (the account owner) may issue a counter DMCA, but that would force the copyright owner to sue you within 14 days if they don’t want the content back on the net. Given that these companies are no small potatoes, I wouldn’t play the dare game with them, especially when they actually have a case.
Thats true no genuine company will allow illegal contains on there server.
But to warn a customer is also what needs to be done as there are many large video uploading site having 1000 of videos uploaded a day and at time the site holder might miss something.
One warning email after account suspension is must, what I feel.
When the site’s tagline is “watch hollywood movies online”, it’s not a passive internet service provider unaware of the infringement, the owner knows exactly what it’s hosting. The safe harbor provision of the DMCA doesn’t apply.
I’ve been using dreamhost for a few years now with absolutely no problems whatsoever. So I was concerned that perhaps something had changed. But no, when someone is doing something wrong and is then caught and dealt with, crying foul is unfounded. There is such a thing as “due diligence”. And awareness of the rules would certainly have come to the attention of the site owner if they had looked into it a bit. Although it seems more like they knew and were trying to “get away with it”. Play with matches and you’re gonna get burned.
