Crop bitmap

I have a problem with the image I uploaded.
I want to “delete” the white backround from this bullet.
I tried to crop this image from a psd file but I found it difficult to crop exactly the bullet.
How can I take only the image with out any backround from this file?
I want to take it at a web page and it is not nice like that.
I have fireworks and photoshop 8.
I know that this question is probably easy but I am a beginner at graphics design.

[Edit] The file is a jpg image that does not fit exactly the bullet size and has also white space

One thing you can do it this (though there may be better ways):

  • open the file in Ps and zoom it so you can see each pixel.
  • in the layers palette, double click the background layer and rename it (to anything)
  • choose the magic wand tool
  • set tolerance to about 10, and deselect “contiguous”
  • click on one of the white corners. With any luck, all 4 white corners will be selected.
  • hit Delete, and you should have 4 transparent corners.

Then save the image using Save for Web. Save the image as a transparent .gif or a .png.

As I say, there may be better ways, but that’s one strategy I use sometimes.

You could, of course, just create a new file and make a green dot on it, which is probably a better option anyway.

Thank you.
It seems to work…
