Copyright over images and logos?

I will like to make a logo for myself and clients, but I’m not sure about copyrights and how do I ensure that its uniqueness, I mean I may come up with, but what if it looks like somebody else’s. Any help. I live in the US and perjury is a big deal so I want to make sure I don’t get in trouble.
Thanks

I’m not a lawyer but if you came up with the concept for the logo and you can show your progress I would imagine you’re going to be okay. It’s when you’re borrowing ideas from other logos that you should start to worry.

FYI: Perjury is lying under oath which has nothing to do with copyright.

Agreed, unless your logo can be seriously mistaken for the brand or identity of another business (and if it looks like it was done deliberately) you shouldn’t have any issues. Most branding issues either come down to having a business name which is very similar to a competitor or if your logo uses recognisable shapes or conventions (like using Apple’s apple). Though I’m not a lawyer so take everything I’ve said as opinion.

As long as you have designed on your own, I don’t think there will be any issue. Try to be creative and play with the things. Problems arise when people take ideas of others and twist it a bit to claim that its unique whereas in actual its copied. Also when you are given a creative brief by your client, you design it in accordance with that only and each creative brief is unique.
