Consistent drop of pages in index

I have a site that has over the last week or so been showing fewer and fewer results when doing a site:domain command in google.co.uk (uk targeted site but also checking .com). From 650k down to today <100k.

The strange thing is traffic is on the up. BUT adsense CTR massively down last 2 days (100’s to 10’s).
The only thing changed is i have added the site in 1 other language which has been indexing during same period and is now within the results. The urls are different. This should have increased the no of pages not decreased!

I have noticed that a few other sites that i monitor (other peoples) have had pages drop too from gg index.

Anyone else seeing this? It’s a tad worrying! Is this caffeine cleaning up the index and deeming some of my pages not relevant enough for main index? Is there a secondary index that doesn’t reflect when doing a site:domain search??

May be in UK it happened. In India I found no changes for my sites.

Never rely on the “site:” operator to be accurate or stable.

The only way to get a true idea of what pages you have indexed is by submitting them using an XML sitemap, and then checking that in WebMasterTools.

site command is not accurate… you can also try to gather more links… it helps…
