Changing Wordpress Admin look/function for contributor users

Hi all,

I’m trying to change the backend of the site to simply be the editor and maybe one or two other functions. I wasn’t sure if this was a CSS type deal or if it required serious coding and hacking of the core.

I basically just need it to look like this picture plus a couple custom functions. I’ve got no coding experience just wanting to be sure what route to guide developers/designers. Thanks for the help!

There are plugins to change the backend. Some of them get rid of all the (annoying) boxes you get when you log into the administration area, others allow you to theme the backend with your logo and your own login screen. Some of them allow you to control the menu on the left, removing items if you wish. I don’t like many of those but you may want to search in wordpress.org for plugins for admin.

Now, to be an editor or have different roles, I would suggest the “members” plugin. It comes with 5 different roles that you can apply: subscriber, editor, contributor, author and administrator

You basically want to remove all the other panels in the post editor?

Basically. They’re all useless for the functions my users would be doing and would just confuse the heck out of people. I just want to wash it clean and add a
couple functions. I’m guessing this will be custom work but what I’m looking for is the angle to attack it.

arkana, something like this might be of use to you for removing some of the dashboard menus. If you type in something like “wordpress remove dashboard menu” in a search engine of your choice, you’ll get a few results with different approaches to do what you’re after.
