Maybe this is where the page is linked.
You really need to update your WordPress, its going to cause you headaches down the road. Plus you should really create a child theme as WebMachine suggested. The customize button you highlighted will only help you customize the template, not change the front page. I see a Plugins menu item. Is there not a Settings menu item a few below that? That settings is where you will change the front page.
Hi everyone,
Can the screen shot above be the answer?
Could it be that the code for the home page is still on the theme’s website?
I get this code template description which does not bring me any place. However, when I take out the code it brings me to here template website
Back to changing my main page. I went to Appearance/Custom and found this section. Could this be what I have to change? I see Your Latest Posts and then Static Page. When I select Static Page it brings up two drop down menus, Front page with pages to choose and then Post Pages with pages to choose.
What exactly do you want to change on the front page? This will determine what approach you will need to take, and it looks right now from reading all the suggestions, that we are just guessing at the possible solution. And it is very hard to give you answers if we are not really sure exactly how the front page was set up to begin with.
Hi WebMachine,
I want to replace a photo and paragraph from a welcome page to the main page. The main page is the one I am having difficulty editing. I understand how to edit the welcome page. I hope this is clear.
I just thought of one more thing. Might the reason I can’t change anything on the main page or edit the widgets is because the wordpress site is NOT a child theme?
I found part of the answer. I went to the theme website and looked up support. It states:
To configure how many posts are shown on the custom homepage and from which categories, goto [Appearance → Theme Options]
To directly modify the custom homepage/static frontpage layout, you will need to edit a filed called [myhome.php]. This is found in the theme’s root folder.
We recommend you use Dreamweaver.
Any suggestions?
I’m glad you found the solution - sometimes it takes a lot of hunting.
I would still recommend that you make the changes in a child theme of your theme, not the original theme. See the following: https://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes.
Thanks WebMachine.
However, I am still having issues. I found the index.php within the theme’s root folder. But now I have a problem. I can’t open the .php in a browser to make sure it’s the correct file. And although I have worked a little in .php I am not feeling confident on how to make the changes necessary. Sigh, it’s always something. lol Any suggestions?
As for the Child Theme, I went into the Web Conten Theme Directory. I did NOT find any whiteinc-child directory so I am assuming there is no child theme. Am I correct? Will this make the editing of widgets impossible? How about the main page? Perhaps I should tell the client to let me develop an totally new wordpress them with an up to date wordpress version.
Perhaps I should suggest to my client that I redo everything with a new theme. This way I learn more about WordPress and he has an up to date WordPress website. But the next question is, how do I do this while his original WordPress website is up.
I am making progress with WordPress. Sorry for being thick on this one. lol
