Boonex Dolphin-more details

Hi! I found an interesting CMS : Boonex Dolphin, which I think is an all around community site buildin tool. It says it has chat, video and photo uploading feature, video chat and I think other types of user interactions, but the problem is can a single person be able to administrate the huge amounts of files that are uploaded every day( I heard Youtube had copyright problems and even got sued)? And also what great webhosting service do people need for such CMS(and expensive of course) ?

I’ve always heard positive reports from people who used Dolphin, although I thought they still embedded, “Powered by…” logos and banner ads if you didn’t pay a fee. Might not be a big deal anyways depending on your needs.

We used Elgg for our social networking site and it has quite a few features (blogs, private messaging, photo albums, status updates, a Questions feature and a lot more) in a pretty slick interface.

Elgg is completely open source and has fairly active plug-in development.

You can check out Elgg at elgg.org.

You can check out our site at viewcaster.net . It is heavily customized so it shows a lot of the personalization ability of the platform.

Boonex used to charge a fee and later changed to free community scripts. I believe it’s good but not the best. You can search this forum for some discussions about it. If your concern is related to videos and copyright, it’s nothing to do with the software.

I have used Boonex Dolphin on one my site. It is not a problem to install the script and make your site pretty. Problem is to bring traffic there and build really good community. You will need much time to do that…

I have used Boonex too and found that you need to be concerned about what features you allow. I allowed everything and had spammers use the site to post stories with outbound links to bad neighborhoods and saw a site with good PageRank lose 2 whole points. So be wary of that. Otherwise there is a lot to like about Boonex.
