There’s a difference between using a service and getting some follow through as a result (such as me having a Twitter name) and outright spamming a service (such as posting your URL all over the place to try and bait some individuals to visit what you have written). I primarily use SitePoint to assist people new to the web design industry in my free time and do not make use of the service to directly promote anything I offer or to get business from the site, you however expressly go out of your way to sign up for accounts with the sole intent of trying to grab as much traffic as you can, it’s very easy to denote that you are using those services not for what the service was intended for but solely for personal gain and guerilla marketing. As for copy-left and open source, they have no place in this discussion, we aren’t talking about copyright violations, we are talking about you - a convicted (in the sense of being banned from a legitimate site) serial spammer who violates terms of service agreements either out of ignorance (not knowing what you do is wrong) or dismissive aggression to promote your website. The real issue here is that you are so caught up in your own misgivings that you simply can’t seem to understand that you broke the rules and you were legitimately banned as a result.
PS: As for “laws change”, so do terms of service agreements… and you don’t seem to have much respect for those, I know exactly what your “argument” is, and my distrust for your point of view has nothing to-do with you as a person. You’re clearly engaging in illicit activities and I have an issue with it.
You introduced copyright in this topic. I replied with copyleft. So u divert the topic to me “a convicted - serial spammer” … lol
Why do copy-left and open source have no place in this discussion. If copyright and ur all righteous attitude does have a place then differing views have a place too.
Whatever u are trying to achieve is right. Coz u think it is right.
Anyways thanks a lot for having succeeded in irritating me. Have seen ur negative attitude in a few threads and no longer wish to be a part of this forum.
I liked this forum coz there were always answers but off late there has been a lot of negativity.
Keep ur ToS besides ur pillow and sleep well.
Peace.
There has been a lot of good advice offered in this thread both by AlexDawson and by JJMcClure. None of that advice has been negative in any way since all of it has basically been to suggest that you should abide by the rules of any service that you use.
Since you actually got banned by Digg there are only two possibilities - either you failed to obey the rules and got caught or they made a mistake. The comments posted in this thread suggest that the first of these two was the case.
The only negativity that has been expressed is basically complaining because no one is prepared to break the rules of this forum by providing advice on how to avoid getting caught when you break the rules of other sites.
Awww… don’t go! I haven’t been this entertained for ages.
Imagine if we could bring Mr Jhangora over to the light side, harness his powers for good and righteousness! How the spammers would fear us then, one whiff of misdeeds and we could loose the verbal WMD that is Mr Jhangora’s prose to baffle and cower them. What fun.
dear mr. felgall and mr. mcClure I won’t have returned had I not received an email intimating me that mr. felgall has replied to a thread started by me. how that is possible is beyond my understanding coz last night i unsubscribed to all threads from sitepoint. r u spamming my email box???
mr. felgall mr.alex dawson is very good at giving good advise, specially in his forte - i.e site designing. some time ago i started a thread requesting how a page like the million dollar home page can be designed and he had a long rant on how it’s not possible to copy the concept. i just wanted to learn the designing part and implement it whichever way suited me.
BTW whether due to this thread or otherwise digg seems to have taken notice and they sent an email saying the ban was due to a post promoting an affiliate product and not due to me - “a convicted - serial spammer” lol again … spamming their almighty bookmarking service. They r willing to unban the account.
it is not a big issue to be banned by a bookmarking website, be it digg or any other. worrisome aspect is negative attitude of fellow forum members. i do not keep a log of all the threads where i have encountered it or seen other non native speakers of english encountering it. but keep this haughty attitude and you’ll prevent a lot of people from learning and bettering themselves and contributing to this forum.
mr. mcClure entertainment is good and so are differences in opinion. i don’t know whether i am on the right side or the wrong side but i speak my mind.
there are plenty of high quality forums on different aspects of web development and affiliate marketing. i think it is better that i take my leave and join another one.
i’ll be unsubscribing from all threads once again after i post this comment. hope my email inbox wud not be spammed again my sitepoint.
Ah ha, did I not link to this Digg ToS…
7. to submit stories or comments linking to affiliate programs, multi-level marketing schemes, sites/blogs repurposing existing stories (source hops), or off-topic content;
So you see you DID contravene their ToS and your ban had nothing to do with your nationality or because English isn’t your first language, but then you were the only person who thought it did. Racism is ugly and hateful and it’s not tolereated on this forum, you have not been a victim of it. Try looking for other reasons for what happened and dont’ assume the worst all the time.
Stick around, it won’t take you long to figure out why you got that reaction.
Sorry but I don’t see the comparison Bompa, violating a terms of service agreement (which is considered in essence, a legally agreed upon and binding contract between service provider and the client) is VERY different to something petty like telling a lie to a spouse (which isn’t even considered a rule) or taking home a pencil from work (taking some stationary isn’t exactly mission critical to the business)… helping damage an entire community, website and adding further systemic “rot” to the web (which is now the worlds chief source of information) is much more serious. It’s not about morals, morals indicate a subjective view of what’s right or wrong… and the only people who are pro-spam, scam or FUD are the people committing the offence… which makes them less than a credible source.
