Australia needs us

I admit it. I am a ‘typical’ American. Australia immediately brings to mind:

  • Kangaroos
  • Mel Gibson
  • Sitepoint*

But I know many of us here on this forum owe a lot to Sitepoint and the amazing staff and volunteers.

Well, now the country of Australia (Sitepoint’s home) is in dire need. There is a serious national tragedy occurring. I only know what I read in news articles on the Internet. I wonder how many of the great people who work for Sitepoint are affected?

I think Sitepoint should organize a Web Relief Effort for the people of Australia. Everyone who is reading this should be willing to provide some, small contribution to help these people who have helped us for many, many years.

I hereby, formally, pledge to send $1000 USD to help the people of Australia who are affected by these terrible floods. And I encourage YOU to make a pledge. Remember, it is not important how much. But it is crucial you give of yourself to help others.

Afterall, I really feel we OWE it to them.

Sitepoint: Will you accept the challenge to be a focal point for this money to help Australia?

Nice idea, Thom. SitePoint made a huge effort to raise money during the awful fires two years ago. The fires were very close to the SitePoint offices in Melbourne (well, in the same state, anyway). The Queensland floods are a long way from HQ (several thousands of miles) but no doubt some of the Queensland forum members are finding it tough right now. Hopefully everyone is doing well.

Hey Thom,
That is really awesome. Thanks for your kindness.
I have a meeting tomorrow and will raise this idea and see what we can do.

I’ll get back to you.
