Any thoughts on Google sites?

My evaluation:

Pros:

  • Free
  • Easy for non-developers to use and modify websites
  • Strong integration with google apps
  • Create an ecomm site in a few minutes

Cons:

[]Limited
[]Buggy
[]Geared more as a sharepoint alternative than a enterprise website development platform

I experimented with google sites just out of curiosity. I scrapped the idea of using it immediately. While it is great for the noobies, those who want to be serious designers should look elsewhere. If money is an issue you would be better off going with one of the free website hosting services like Free hosting, web host free, free websites hosting, freewebsite or [url=http://www.000webhost.com/]Free Web Hosting with PHP, MySQL and cPanel, No Ads they both seem ok. If you have your own domain name you would still be able to integrate with google apps. I have paid hosting but I use gmail with some of my domains. It was relatively painless process.

Google creates web applications and products which will be used and can be used inside google. That is their main pros and cons.
