All I want to do is rename a font. Why is this so freaking hard?

All I want to do is rename 1 font name (the name that appears in programs not the filename). I’ve been searching and searching but cannot find a free answer for this. All of the programs that do this you have to pay to rename it and there’s no way I’m paying for a full program when all I want to do is rename one font. Please somebody tell me there is a free program out there that will allow me to do this.

Strange. I don’t see an edit button. Just two quote buttons and a quick reply button.

There is a time limit for how long you have to edit a post. This is to prevent people from causing problems by changing posts (which may make replies not make sense…)

Well that’s very odd. The edit button appears on my last post but the others before don’t have an edit button.

Never mind figured it out.

This forum needs an edit button.

You should get the ‘Edit’ button appearing after posting to the left-side of the the button that has the text ‘quote’. Unless something different has been set-up for new members so they cannot edit posts, which I doubt.

Sorry for the delay, internet troubles.

The problem is that I have two fonts, which are free fonts, that appear to be different versions of the same font, both of which I want to use but cause a conflict in Adobe LiveCycle Designer. The two font names are:

GarmdITC Bk BT
ITC Garamond Book

Whenever I save any text using the second font it automatically reverts it to the top font despite it being named differently. If I uninstall the top font then the bottom font works fine, but if I reinstall it then open the file again it automatically reverts it back to the top.

I was hoping that renaming and saving the font via software might fix this problem.

<ot>The forum does have an edit button and it is active for quite a while too.</ot>

There’s also an issue of legality here, to physically alter the name of the font will not only make it less likely that it will be recognisable or re-usable for most people who you distribute documents using it within, but decompiling a font for the purpose of altering the structure of the typeface (name included) would be a direct violation of intellectual property law. Typography is a creative medium, to reverse-engineer it as such could lead the Foundry to go after you with a pick axe.

Can we know why do you need this?

Yes I’m curious as well. What would be your reasoning for renaming the font?
