When Adam arrives home, he finds Georgia in the kitchen. ‘Georgia, I'm sorry about this morning honey. I know this stuff is really important to you and I will make more of an effort.’ ‘Thanks Dad,’ she says, giving him a hug before leaving to return to her room. He takes off his shoes and jacket and goes in search of Rose, finding her in her home office.

In the office, time seems to stand still as Adam waits for his 10.30 a.m. call with Kaito. Eventually, it's time to connect. He dials into the Zoom meeting and waits for Kaito to join him. ‘Adam, hi! It's so good to see you. How are you?’ Adam breaks into a broad grin. ‘I'm great thanks. It's great to see you too. Look, Kaito, things have changed for me recently and I've decided I want to make a go of it in the renewable energy space.’ He pauses, waiting for a reaction. Kaito smiles, then laughs. ‘That's fantastic! What are you thinking about?’ ‘Well, for a start I'd really love you to be involved…’

As Kaito closes the meeting he sits back in his chair and lets out a sigh, although instead of scribbling angrily on his pad this time he's grinning. He knew Adam would come around to renewable energy being the future. He'd known that as soon as they got talking at the conference a few years ago, and he's pleased his friend has finally decided to take the plunge – and with solar hopefully! This is good for me. There's so much in development with solar at the moment, we have a real chance to disrupt the sector in a good way . Kaito suddenly snaps out of his thoughts, staring at the twinkling lights of Tokyo out of his window. Imagine if they were all powered by solar energy? He turns back to the room, glancing at the small clock on his desk. It's 19:40, he'll need to hurry if he's going to make his Aikido class at the Dojo.

How Everyone Can Contribute and Shine

Two weeks later, Adam feels calm as he prepares for the video conference with their new R&D partners. When he'd looked at the documents Sunita had sent over, he could tell she had done a great deal of research. He wasn't the only person on the team who was impressed. Dave, Jeff and Kaito had all voiced their support too; and although it was a joint decision over who to work with, the new partners were the three preferred by Sunita.

In addition to introducing regular team catch‐ups, Adam has recently introduced individual feedback sessions with each team member too. He looks out of the office window to see clear blue sky. It's warm and he's hoping to fit another beach trip in before the summer is over, and before Georgia travels to California for her exchange trip in September.

Adam spends the whole weekend thinking about what Georgia has told him. After dinner, he takes his laptop into his study and spends a couple of hours doing some research into the impacts of large‐scale wind farms on migratory birds. A part of him hopes that Georgia is exaggerating and that he'll be able to find the proof he needs to convince her, and himself, that everything will be okay.

A couple of weeks later, Adam is having his virtual dinner date with Georgia. He sits at the table and sets the tablet up so that he and Rose can both see the screen while they're eating. Of course, for Georgia who is now in California, it's breakfast time.

Two weeks later Adam is preparing to give another presentation to the groups that are part of the NGO and its second hackathon. This time he feels nervous. What if I don't explain this properly again? What if they don't understand our Why?

A month later, the projects have really accelerated, especially the wind project. He's just finished a call with Paula and they need to get their new turbines in production before Christmas if they're going to meet the project deadlines. It's a tall order. Adam has already put out feelers for a manufacturer, but the most logical option is to go with their existing partner in China.

As Adam steps off the plane a wall of heat hits him. He knew it would be hot and humid here but wow. Suddenly, he feels hideously overdressed after the flight. He fights to remove his sweatshirt and feels relieved when he feels a slight breeze. He looks up at the clear blue sky and smiles. He's made it.
