⚡ Engineering Lead Multi-Modal Learning Platform Scotland (2/3 times per month in their Edinburgh office) Our client is looking for an Engineering Lead to report directly to the CEO and spearhead the next phase of development for their innovative online education platform. Their platform is designed to inspire learners of all ages, fostering a lifelong passion for learning. As the Engineering Lead, you will guide the technical design and execution of the next-generation front-end applications, platform, and associated tools. This role includes overseeing the selection, integration, and management of various third-party systems that support their platform. You will be leading the engineering team of 3 people - and expected to be a solid technical hands-on leader. If you've got experience being a hands-on leader at a strong consumer, product-led company, architecting cloud-native, web/mobile applications - please apply Key Responsibilities: In a dynamic and evolving software team, your responsibilities will vary, but key duties include: Oversee cloud-based development, testing, and production environments. Lead the design, development, and testing of front-end applications, back-end platform components, and APIs. Conduct code reviews and approve critical technical deliverables to ensure design consistency and quality. Manage technical issues and risks, driving them to successful resolution. Provide leadership in Agile ceremonies and processes within the engineering and product teams. Offer technical insight and support to the Leadership Team. Ensure effective management and development of the engineering team, fostering a collaborative environment. Define and communicate technology roadmaps, securing company-wide alignment and commitment. Continuously improve software development processes within the engineering team. Conduct regular performance reviews and set clear objectives for team members. Take charge of hiring and nurturing the technical talent necessary to meet strategic goals within budget constraints. Experience & Qualifications: You will need 10 years of experience in technical design and development of content-centric web applications across various technologies, such as Node.js, Java/J2EE, Python, and Ruby. Key qualifications also include: Expertise in establishing cloud-based environments for Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery. Extensive experience with Agile methodologies (e.g., Scrum) for rapid product development and release. Proven experience leading teams of five or more developers through full development lifecycles, offering both team and thought leadership. Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to break down complex technical challenges and devise creative solutions. Familiarity with cloud infrastructure services (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform) and micro-service architectures is a plus. A deep understanding of the challenges and objectives of small companies, with the ability to align technical and commercial strategies within budget constraints. Strategic thinking with the ability to anticipate future developments and provide technical vision. Excellent time management and prioritization skills to manage the dynamic nature of the role. Experience in negotiating commercial contracts with third-party technology providers. Mobile application development A Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field.
