WordPress templates

Is there a way to tell if a template is customizable before purchasing and downloading? I downloaded this template: http://themeforest.net/item/simply-colorful/79068 and I couldn’t even change the pages/top nav. He had a form to fill in info for those exact pages. The ones I’m interested in are these:

http://themeforest.net/item/bigfeature-wordpress-theme/51702
http://themeforest.net/item/pacifica-wp-a-premium-wordpress-portfolio-theme/61047

Is there a way to tell if it’s what we need before purchasing? Can’t even see where to add a comment even after logging in. Need to add 9 static pages and they need to show as the top nav and we need a portfolio or photo page and preferably a section to input sponsor images like the Ads and Affiliates section on these templates.

Thanks so much in advance for your help!

Think I figured this out :-).

I am guessing that you just need to add your own pages through admin panel and the navigation should sort itself out.

Cheers
Ryan

RyanGlobal, thanks. I actually finally got a hold of the author of the one that didn’t work. It’s true. Can’t add pages to the top navi. Don’t get that template :-). Not customizable much at all!

The only way to tell is if the designer puts up a demo of the backend. If a theme is good and been around awhile you should post questions to the user forum or support forum for the theme.

Nearly every theme I have used has backend weaknesses no matter how much they cost.

It’s hard to find a nice mix of designer/coder. Themes usually weigh towards one or the other.
