Wordpress - Left border won't go away

Hello all,

Please bear with me, as this is the first time doing this; but I’m currently in the process in making a website with the twentyten as base template. I have already changed quite some things now, but I am struggling with the menu.

I want to appear that the upper part (the header with image) and the lower part are divided by the menu, which should have the same background color as the rest of the site. I thought to do it by changing the background color of my menu to my full background, but I have run into a problem: a white border. My first thought was to increase the width of the menu, which worked on the right side of the border (the white part would be overlapped by my menu), but not on the left. How could I change this?

It would be best if we could see the rendered HTML that goes with that CSS—preferably a live link. Otherwise, it’s hard to work out where that border is coming from.

Could you just explain again what you want to change here? Obviously the top-right section eeds work, but is there anything else? It’s hard to relate your questions above to what I’m seeing on your site.

Thanks for your response. The top right indeeds needs work, but I will do that later.

The problem that I have is that I want to divide the site in 2 parts: the header and the text box. The menu should be in the same color as the background. (You see now, the background of home has the same color as the rest. But left from it you see white)

I have highlighted this with the screenshot that I have made:

I want the menu bar to cover also the white part. I hope this is clear. If it is not, please let me know

OK, the first thing to do, then, is remove the left and right padding from the #wrapper:

#wrapper {
	background: #fff;
	margin-top: 20px;
	padding: 0 [COLOR="Red"]20px[/COLOR];
}

It would be better in this case to apply the padding just to elements that need it. So change it to

#wrapper {
	background: #fff;
	margin-top: 20px;
	[COLOR="Red"]padding: 0 0;[/COLOR]
}

and work from there.

Hi Ralph,

Thanks for your advice, it was really helpful. I was able to delete the padding and it looked like this:

Which is exactly what I hoped to get, so that’s nice. Then, I figured that the best way was to start with the header. Searching in the CSS File gave me the following padding currently:

#header {
padding: 30px 0 0 0;

Which makes perfect sense, the 30 px are I assume the padding on the top. I looked up some CSS info about padding, and thought to come up with the following:

#header {
padding-top:30px;
padding-bottom:30px;
padding-right:20px;
padding-left:20px;
}

Though, it didn’t really come out as I liked.

The header is now way too wide, I don’t really understand why, cause effectively we have the same padding as before, right?
The bar at the menu still exists, so the menu is a part of the header? How would I go about setting it apart so I can remove that bar?

Could you (or ofcourse someone else!) maybe give me some advice?

Yes, the menu is part of the header.

Here are some changes you could make to get things working:

The only part I didn’t understand is the #wpcontent_slider_container. I can’t find this in the CSS File, or in the editor of the slideshow itself and I’m kinda curious where I could find it. Thanks in advance!

Assuming this is the Wordpress Content Slide plugin, the #wpcontent_slider_container rule seems to be in the embedded styles in the following file at around line 214
